About Me

Whilst studying a Multimedia Journalism degree at Teesside University, I kick-started my career as a freelance sports writer and editor, working for the world’s largest football website and a leading digital sports content and media group, among other publications.

During this time, I watched and reported on the football team I support (the ultimate goal), attended Premier League and international matches as a journalist, won an internship at the world’s largest newspaper thanks to academic performance, and gained a first-class honours degree and NCTJ qualifications.

However, I decided that journalism wasn’t for me after discovering an exciting path into digital marketing, with an internship at a small agency in Newcastle. I was offered a full time role after graduating, to oversee organic and paid search, social media management, email marketing, multimedia content and online PR services for a wide range of local and national clients.

In 2014, I decided to specialise further in organic search, joining Silverbean, a digital marketing agency. I started out as a Search Marketing Executive, supporting on client campaigns with various content and link building activities, before being promoted to a Consultant to lead the agency’s biggest client campaigns, provide technical SEO consultancy, and work alongside the paid and affiliate departments. Over the course of 18 months, I also gained responsibilities managing and training team members, planning resource and budgets, and developing the overall service offering.

In November 2015, I was fortunate enough to receive a commendation in the ‘Rising Star’ category at the Drum Network Awards, before being shortlisted for ‘Young Digital Marketer of the Year’ at the 2016 Northern Digital Awards a couple of months later.

Third time proved to be the charm, as I won ‘Rising Star’ at the Drum Search Awards in June 2016, with judges from a range of leading digital agencies, Google, Yahoo, Bing, Tesco and LEGO.

I was promoted for a second time at Silverbean in July 2016, to Senior Search Consultant. As well as previous responsibilities, I had to oversee clients across the SEO department, recruitment of team members and new business opportunities, among other things.

After a busy 12 month period, which involved managing a department restructure, I decided to take my career to the next level by joining another local agency, Evolved Digital, as Head of Search. In my current role, I’m responsible for developing and delivering the overall SEO service to establish Evolved as one of the leading agencies in the region, and beyond.

I started working as a freelance digital marketing consultant in my spare time 2015, to improve and broaden my skills and knowledge. This has allowed me to work with numerous local and national businesses, focusing on a mix of digital channels, in particular organic and paid search.

My freelance work has included technical SEO audits and consultancy, outreach and link building campaigns, content marketing, social media strategy, email marketing campaigns, analytics audits and CRO recommendations. You can find out more about my freelance consultancy services, here.
